Blue Bell: Japanese acoustic guitars, history and models

Models, markings and construction from a less familiar Japanese brand.

Beyond the familiar names

Blue Bell belongs to the less widely recognised side of Japanese acoustic guitar collecting. Our archive examines the brand’s relationship with the Japanese production and distribution network, including the names Tama and Hoshino. Such histories should always be checked against evidence for the particular model and period.

Do not assume one specification

The Blue Bell name appears on instruments at different price and construction levels. A model number, internal label and period catalogue are more useful than assuming every example shares the same woods or workshop. Distinguish documented information from seller attribution.

What to inspect

Pay attention to the bridge joint, top shape, neck angle, frets and any repaired cracks. Confirm the construction of the top, back and sides individually. Decorative appointments can be attractive, but they are not a substitute for examining structural condition and playability.

Reading our listings

For an instrument in the SVG collection, use its individual description and service record as the practical reference. Ask us for detail about repairs or modifications. Its current setup and documented history are more useful to a player than an unqualified promise about the brand as a whole.
