Japanese guitar-making history includes both Hiroshi Tamura and Mitsuru Tamura. The surname alone does not establish the maker or model. An older guitar should therefore be described through its complete signature, date and instrument markings rather than a shared reputation attached to the name.
Choosing a Tamura instrument
Ask for a readable label photo. Compare scale length and neck width, then inspect the bridge joint and past top repairs. Do not fit steel strings to an instrument intended for nylon.
