Burny: Japanese electric guitars, acoustics and the BJ series
Burny is more than familiar electric-guitar shapes. Its 1970s catalogues also reveal an acoustic range, illustrated here by our left-handed BJ-60.
Burny and Fernandes: related histories
The Fernandes catalogue archive preserves separate Burny electric and acoustic brochures from 1977. They show a broader range than today’s interest in Les Paul-style guitars might suggest. We believe good examples deserve consideration as working instruments, not just collector’s curiosities.

The shared 1973 catalogue

FLG: similar shapes, different specifications
Burny’s 1977 electric brochure includes FLG-70, FLG-85, FLG-90 and FLG-100 models with differing specifications. A familiar silhouette does not mean identical construction. When comparing used prices, consider year, actual equipment and condition rather than appearance alone.

BJ acoustics: a less familiar side of Burny
The 1977 acoustic brochure includes BJ-50, BJ-55N, BJ-60 and BJ-65N models, in natural and sunburst finishes. BJ acoustics are therefore documented in the 1970s, not a recent addition to an exclusively electric story. The catalogue explains the period range; inspection establishes a surviving guitar’s condition.

Our BJ-60 LH and documented service
Our left-handed Tobacco Burst BJ-60 LH is listed as 1980. Its service history includes new frets and a repair at the neck heel joint. We disclose such work because it matters when assessing an older acoustic. A properly prepared Burny can be a persuasive alternative to a new guitar; playability, response and sound should settle the comparison.
