About this instrument

Instrument description in English.

PLEASE NOTE! This instrument is presented as a pre-sale item. It will undergo luthier work, including, among other things, polishing of the finish, refurbishment of the metal parts and shielding of the electronics. Depending on the assessment of the neck geometry, the original frets will receive an advanced levelling and polishing, or – if levelling (planing) of the fingerboard proves necessary – the instrument will receive a completely new set of frets. The final price includes the above work. This listing does not constitute a commercial offer within the meaning of Article 66 § 1 of the Polish Civil Code.

About the instrument
The Edwards E-JB-105R/ASH is a Jazz Bass-type bass guitar from the Edwards brand owned by the Japanese company ESP, produced in 2019. The instrument presented here has an ash body, a maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard and a factory set of Seymour Duncan SJB-1 pickups with Gotoh hardware; the finish is Snow White. Edwards is a brand of the Japanese company ESP (Electric Sound Products, Tokyo, 1975), aimed primarily at the Japanese market and positioned between the LTD series and ESP instruments; its catalogues have been published since the early 1990s. Edwards instruments are fitted with Gotoh hardware and Seymour Duncan pickups or ESP’s own designs, and the number in the model designation corresponds to the list price in thousands of yen (the “R” suffix denotes a rosewood fingerboard, “M” – maple, “/LT” – the Lacquer Taste finish). The instrument is currently being prepared and will undergo the scheduled luthier service in our workshop before being released.

Body and construction
The solid Jazz Bass-outline body is made of ash. The instrument has a Snow White lacquer finish. A traditional Bolt-on construction with the classic four-bolt neck joint is used. In line with the terms of the pre-sale, the finish and wooden components will be cleaned and polished in our workshop, and the electronics cavities will be shielded.

Neck and playability
The maple neck, with the slim profile characteristic of Jazz Bass-type designs, is paired with a rosewood fingerboard; the nut is made of bone. The fingerboard has 20 original standard-size frets (Vintage Style). Depending on the assessment of the neck geometry, the original frets will undergo a thorough levelling and polishing, or – should the fingerboard require levelling (planing) – the instrument will receive entirely new frets. This will ensure correct intonation and appropriate string action along the entire length of the fingerboard. The fingerboard surface will be cleaned and conditioned.

Sound
The instrument is fitted with a factory set of two Seymour Duncan SJB-1 single-coil pickups (SJB-1n in the neck position and SJB-1b at the bridge) in a passive circuit with two Volume potentiometers and a shared Master Tone.

Character: According to the manufacturer, the Seymour Duncan SJB-1 (Vintage for Jazz Bass) pickups are a recreation of early-1960s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups: Alnico 5 magnets, low output, and a reverse-wound/reverse-polarity (RWRP) neck pickup, so that the pair operates hum-free when mixed equally. Combined with the ash body, this produces the frequency response typical of classic JB designs, with the ability to balance the tone between the neck and bridge positions.

Dynamics: The passive electronics respond proportionally to the force of articulation, retaining note definition with both fingerstyle and pick playing. The scheduled servicing of the circuit and shielding of the electronics cavities will reduce susceptibility to ambient noise.

Additional information

The Edwards brand belongs to the Japanese company ESP and is intended primarily for the domestic market (JDM); it offers instruments with a specification close to the higher ESP series, produced in larger runs using Japanese Gotoh hardware.

In Edwards designations, the number in the model name corresponds to the list price in thousands of yen, and the suffixes specify the fingerboard (R – rosewood, M – maple) and the finish variant (/LT – Lacquer Taste).

The bass is offered on a pre-sale basis, which allows this particular instrument to be reserved before the full luthier work in our workshop has been completed.
