Fresher Personal Bass PB is a Japanese instrument from the early 80s, manufactured at the Chushin Gakki factory. This unit represents the fourth generation of the brand (the so-called fourth logo), characterized by a modernized typeface on the headstock. The model is a replica of a PB-style bass. The body is finished in Black lacquer, and a passive Split-Coil pickup is used in the electronic circuit. After our service work, which included fret dressing and shielding of the electronics with copper foil, the instrument is ready to play.

Body and construction The solid body is made of alder. The instrument features a Black lacquer finish. A traditional Bolt-on construction is used, with a tightly fitted neck pocket ensuring proper resonance transfer. In our workshop, the electronics cavities were completely shielded with copper foil. The lacquer coating went through a polishing and waxing process.
Neck and ergonomics The maple neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard. The Medium size frets retain about 90% of their original height and underwent a dressing process (leveling and polishing) during our service work. The fingerboard surface was cleaned and conditioned with lemon oil and wax.
Sound The instrument is equipped with a single Split-Coil pickup in a passive circuit.
Characteristics: The use of an alder body and a Split-Coil layout provides a balanced frequency response with pronounced mids and a clear bottom end.
Dynamics: The passive electronics respond directly to the articulation strength of fingers or a pick. The applied copper shielding significantly reduces the circuit's susceptibility to external electromagnetic interference.

The fourth generation of Fresher instruments (identified by the modernized logo on the headstock) was produced in the early 1980s by the Chushin Gakki factory for the Kyowa Shokai company.
The Chushin Gakki factory was responsible in later decades for producing highly regarded Japanese series for brands like Jackson and Charvel, confirming the high standard of woodworking at this factory.
The Split-Coil pickup consists of two independent coils (each serving two strings) that physically reduce hum through reverse polarity, acting on the principle of a humbucker.
The service work we performed included: fret dressing, full copper electronics shielding, finish polishing, fingerboard conditioning, hardware renewal, and scale length setup.

Bridge: Vintage Style PB – a steel construction ensuring proper intonation and vibration transfer.
Tuners: Open Gear Vintage – open-back mechanisms with classic buttons. The chrome hardware went through a renewal process and retains its mechanical efficiency.
Instrument condition
Technical condition: The instrument is mechanically and electronically functional after a luthier verification. The truss rod works properly, and the frets are leveled.
Visual condition: The guitar shows more pronounced, standard signs of use resulting from its age. Scratches and dings on the body are visible. The neck has minor lacquer damage halfway down its length (on the back of the neck), which we smoothed out and secured.
Setup and Modifications: Copper foil shielding of the electronics cavities, full fret dressing, metal hardware renewal, and scale length setup were performed.
