About this instrument

Instrument description in English.

ATTENTION! The presented instrument is offered as a pre-sale. Luthier work will be performed on it, including, among others, lacquer polishing, hardware restoration, and electronics shielding. Depending on the verification of the neck geometry, the original frets will undergo advanced dressing and polishing, or – if fingerboard leveling is necessary – the instrument will receive brand new frets. The final price includes the above-mentioned work.

Fernandes The Function FST is a Japanese electric guitar, manufactured in the second half of the 1980s. The instrument is based on the classic ST body shape but has been adapted to more modern standards by using an HSS pickup layout (one humbucker, two single-coils). The unit features an original Olympic White finish, which has taken on a heavily cream shade over the years. According to the information above, the instrument is currently being prepared and will undergo a comprehensive luthier overhaul before the final handover.

Body and construction The solid ST-shaped body features a polyurethane finish that has naturally darkened to a cream shade. A traditional Bolt-on neck construction is used. A three-ply black pickguard is mounted on the front, creating a strong contrast with the bright lacquer and matching headstock. In accordance with the pre-sale conditions, the lacquer coating will undergo a cleaning and polishing process in our workshop.

Neck and ergonomics The maple neck features a slim, comfortable profile. The neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard with bright dot inlays. Depending on the verification of the neck geometry, the original frets will undergo advanced dressing and polishing, or – if fingerboard leveling is necessary – the instrument will receive brand new frets. This will ensure proper intonation and a comfortable string action.

Sound The instrument is equipped with a passive three-pickup circuit in an HSS configuration.

Characteristics: The use of a humbucker pickup at the bridge provides a higher signal level with strong mids, while the two single-coil pickups offer a classic, brighter, and more glassy sound in the middle and neck positions.

Dynamics: The 5-way switch allows for a wide palette of tones, making this instrument a very versatile tool that responds efficiently to picking dynamics.

Additional information

"The Function" series was the Japanese response to the demand from 1980s musicians for versatile, modernized instruments based on the ST shape (so-called Superstrats).

The change of the original Olympic White color to a deep cream shade is a natural effect of aging and oxidation of lacquer coatings from this period.

The HSS layout is one of the most sought-after pickup configurations, allowing for a smooth transition between heavier overdrives and a selective clean channel.

The guitar is offered in a pre-sale formula, which allows you to reserve this unit even before the full process of luthier work is finally completed.

Hardware

Bridge: Synchronized Tremolo – a traditional screw-mounted construction. According to the scope of work, the hardware will undergo maintenance and full intonation adjustment.

Tuners: Closed Gear mechanisms in black. This hardware will be thoroughly cleaned to ensure tuning stability and smooth operation.

Instrument condition

Technical condition: The instrument is currently being prepared for playing (pre-sale). After the planned luthier work is completed, it will be 100% mechanically and electronically functional.

Visual condition: The guitar shows signs of use appropriate for its age (1980s). The lacquer coating exhibits natural discoloration (color aging). The instrument has no structural wood cracks.

Setup and Modifications: Service work is ongoing, including lacquer polishing, electronics shielding, hardware maintenance, and depending on verification – fret dressing or full fingerboard leveling combined with refretting.

Why choose this instrument

Golden Age Era: The guitar comes from the best period of Japanese production (the 1980s), valued for the extraordinary precision of woodworking and solid assembly in factories there.

HSS Versatility: The combination of a humbucker and two single-coils makes the instrument suitable for almost any musical genre.

Pre-sale offer: By purchasing the instrument in the pre-sale phase, you receive a guitar that will be fully restored by a professional luthier right before shipping.

Comprehensive service: Within the set price, the guitar will undergo all necessary preparatory work (including fret processing), meaning it will require no additional financial input after pickup.
