Über dieses Instrument

Diese Instrumentenbeschreibung ist derzeit auf Englisch verfügbar.

ATTENTION! This instrument is presented as a pre-sale. Luthier work will be performed on it, including, among others, lacquer polishing, hardware restoration, and electronics shielding. Depending on the verification of the neck geometry, the original frets will undergo advanced dressing and polishing, or – if fingerboard leveling is necessary – the instrument will receive brand new frets. The final price includes the above-mentioned work. This announcement does not constitute a commercial offer within the meaning of the Civil Code.

Fresher Straighter ST is a Japanese electric guitar, manufactured in the early 1980s for the Kyowa Shokai brand. This model belongs to the fourth generation of Fresher instruments (so-called 4th Generation), produced at the Chushin Gakki manufacture. The presented unit features visible visual and electronic modifications: it has a non-original Tortoise Shell pickguard, a replaced bridge, and a layout with two non-factory mini humbucker (rail) pickups. According to the information above, the instrument is currently being prepared and will undergo a comprehensive luthier overhaul before the final handover.

Technical specification

Manufacturer: Fresher (Kyowa Shokai)

Model: Straighter ST (4th Gen)

Year of production: Early 1980s

Body: Alder / Basswood

Neck: Maple

Fingerboard: Rosewood

Frets: Vintage Style (Condition: planned new / after dressing)

Pickups: 2x Mini Humbucker Rail (Neck, Bridge), 1x Single-Coil (Middle)

Electronics: Passive (1x Volume, 2x Tone, 5-way switch)

Visual condition: Pre-sale / Modified (details in description)

Finish: Olympic White (Aged)

Weight: (to be completed)

Body and construction The solid ST-shaped body features a polyurethane finish in Olympic White, which has naturally and heavily yellowed over the decades. A traditional Bolt-on neck construction with a four-bolt joint is used. The front of the instrument has been modified by installing an aftermarket Tortoise Shell pickguard, which strongly contrasts with the bright lacquer. In accordance with the pre-sale conditions, the lacquer coating will undergo a cleaning and polishing process in our workshop.

Neck and ergonomics The maple neck features a standard profile. The neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard equipped with bright dot inlays. The neck is topped with a standard, small headstock corresponding to classic early ST specifications. Depending on the verification of the neck geometry, the original frets will undergo advanced dressing and polishing, or – if fingerboard leveling is necessary – the instrument will receive brand new frets. This will ensure proper intonation and appropriate string action across the entire neck.

Sound The instrument is equipped with a passive, modified three-pickup circuit. Non-factory mini humbucker (rail) pickups have been installed in the neck and bridge positions.

Characteristics: The use of rail-type pickups increases the output signal and reduces the noise characteristic of traditional single-coils, generating a compressed frequency response with a stronger midrange.

Dynamics: The 5-way switch allows utilizing both the increased power of the mini humbuckers and the more selective tones obtained from the middle pickup.

Additional information

The fourth generation (4th Gen) designation is determined based on the updated logo on the headstock, used by the Fresher brand from the early 1980s.

The instrument has undergone significant non-factory modifications, including the replacement of pickups (to a setup with two mini rail humbuckers), the bridge, and the pickguard (to a Tortoise Shell variant).

Production entrusted to the Chushin Gakki manufacture guarantees appropriate woodworking and component precision, characteristic of Japanese facilities from this period.

The guitar is offered in a pre-sale formula, which allows you to reserve this unit even before the full process of luthier work is finally completed in our workshop.

Hardware

Bridge: Synchronized Tremolo – a replaced, non-factory steel construction in a chrome finish. According to the scope of work, the hardware will undergo maintenance and full intonation adjustment.

Tuners: Closed Gear mechanisms. The chrome hardware will be thoroughly cleaned and lubricated to ensure tuning stability.

Instrument condition

Technical condition: The instrument is currently being prepared for playing (pre-sale). After the planned luthier work is completed, it will be 100% mechanically and electronically functional.

Visual condition: The guitar shows natural signs of use appropriate for its age. The lacquer coating has heavily and naturally aged and yellowed. The instrument has no structural wood cracks.

Setup and Modifications: The guitar features a replaced pickguard, non-factory pickups (mini humbuckers), and a replaced bridge. Service work is ongoing, including lacquer polishing, electronics shielding, and depending on verification – fret dressing or fingerboard leveling with refretting.

Why choose this instrument

Chushin Gakki production: Solid assembly from a respected Japanese manufacture, guaranteeing the basic structural stability of the instrument.

High signal and modifications: The setup with mini humbucker rail pickups significantly expands the instrument's capabilities in areas of heavier overdrives, while reducing the electronics' inherent noise.

Pre-sale offer: Purchasing in the pre-sale format is a chance to reserve the instrument and receive it right after a professional luthier restoration.

Comprehensive service: Within the set price, the guitar will undergo all necessary preparatory work, eliminating the need for any additional financial input after pickup.
