Fresher Personal Bass PB is a Japanese bass guitar, manufactured between 1977 and 1980 for the Kyowa Shokai brand. The model belongs to the third generation of Fresher instruments (the so-called 3rd logo). During this period, production was being successively transferred from the Matsumoto Gakki factory to the Chushin Gakki facilities, commissioned by the Matsumoto company. This unit is a replica of the Precision Bass design. It features a Sunburst finish and is equipped with a maple fingerboard. After our preventive service work, which included fret polishing and fingerboard cleaning, the bass is ready to play.

Body and construction The solid body is made of alder. The instrument features a Sunburst lacquer finish. A traditional Bolt-on neck construction is used. A bright pickguard is mounted on the front. In our workshop, the lacquer coating went through a cleaning and protecting process.
Neck and ergonomics The maple neck features a "C" shaped profile. The neck is paired with a maple fingerboard. As part of the preventive service work, the original Vintage Style frets (retaining about 80% of their original height) underwent a dressing process (polishing). The fingerboard surface was cleaned. The appropriate neck geometry allowed for a precise string action setup.
Sound The instrument is equipped with a factory Split-Coil pickup in a passive circuit.
Characteristics: The combination of an alder body and a maple fingerboard with a split-coil pickup generates a frequency response with clear low-mids and a brighter, legible attack.
Dynamics: The passive electronics respond proportionally to articulation strength, maintaining clarity when playing fingerstyle and with a pick.

The Personal Bass model from the third generation period (the so-called 3rd logo) was a more faithful replica of original American designs from the 1970s compared to earlier Fresher series.
Between 1977 and 1980, the production of Fresher guitars was being successively transferred from the Matsumoto Gakki factory to the Chushin Gakki facilities, directly commissioned by the Matsumoto company.
Instruments built in these factories during the Lawsuit era were based on proven construction specifications, which directly translated into their mechanical stability.
The preventive service work we performed included: fret polishing, maple fingerboard cleaning, finish maintenance, and setting the scale length and string action.

Bridge: Vintage Style PB – a steel construction that has undergone a cleaning process, allowing for proper intonation adjustment.
Tuners: Vintage Open Gear – open-back mechanisms with classic buttons. The chrome hardware has a natural patina and retains its mechanical efficiency.
Instrument condition
Technical condition: The instrument is mechanically and electronically functional after a luthier verification. The truss rod works properly, and the electronics operate without interference.
Visual condition: The guitar shows clear signs of use. Scratches, dings, and minor chips appropriate for the instrument's age are visible on the lacquer coating. The instrument has no structural wood cracks.
Setup and Modifications: The instrument is preserved in its original specification. Preventive fret polishing, fingerboard cleaning, and a full setup of the string action and intonation were performed.
